Once you have a published book related on your field of expertise then, it’s time to earn money from it. Don’t expect to sell many copies of your book because the past few years have not been favorable for aspiring authors. Survey showed that only half of the authors in the UK had earnings from selling their books while 17% did not sell anything. Selling a book is not your primary purpose. Instead, it will be the leverage for your business. That’s where you will generate income – from your business, not your book.

When you know the benefits of having a published book for your business then, put it into good use. Your book is your new business card that you will give to your prospective clients. It is the marketing tool that will turn readers into customers and enable you to make a sale. You don’t sell your business cards for a profit, so don’t expect to sell your book for a profit either.

Here are 3 points to maximize the use of your published book to market your business.

1. Use your book to link to your business.

Your book should be relevant to your business. Readers will know about the products or services of your business when your book links back to it. You can include it in your author’s profile or you can mention it throughout your book. When you use your business as example when explaining scenarios and ideas, it could make the reader curious enough to check your website.

2. Pre-sell your prospects with your book.

A published book will reduce time and energy convincing prospects to do business with you. You will not waste time on inquiries and requests for quotes that will head nowhere. Just give your prospects a copy of your book for them to read to prove them of your value. This will ensure that potential customers that visit your store or your website are ready to work with you.

3. Use your book as a give-away.

You might think that it’s crazy to give your book to people for free but it’s not! Remember, it’s not your final product. Your book is your marketing tool to get more customers and opportunities for your business. It doesn’t have to be a printed book which is quite costly when you print in hundreds or thousands of copies. Instead, it can be a printable e-book that the readers could download and print on their own.

First, you can offer the book as a give-away to your target market then, to the industry influencers with the same market as you but not your direct competitors. These influencers can be educators, bloggers, media outlets, or businesses that give complementary services.

Last but not the least, give your book to your prospective partners. Your product or service might need someone or some company to provide delivery. Or, you might want to partner with bigger and more established companies to expand your market. Sending them copies of your published book will let them know that you have much to offer. You have the “wow” factor as you have the content, the expertise, and the credibility of a published author. Not just a newcomer that wants access to their network or skills.

Shift your focus from getting revenue through selling a published book into using it as a marketing tool. By doing so, you will have a better chance of earning money in your business with the profit-generating opportunities. You didn’t just effectively use your book but you also gained from investing on your book! Find out more.
